I had the opposite effect after watching Dear Zachary.

Yea it’s called denying the antecedent. Which is the exact logic the scientific method uses.
You wanna throw the baby out with the bath water?
If you pray for 100 different things and one comes true, then we must attribute prayer to getting what you want?

Not the first time I was convinced, but the most powerful:
Short version of the story is my son was a few days away from being born and the Dr showed us the ultrasound with multiple tumors in his heart, brain, and stomach. Dr told us that he would be born disfigured (external and internal tumors) and wouldn't live more than a few years. He delicately offered the option of an abortion - we declined. 2 days of crying and praying for a miracle and he was born perfectly healthy - no tumors of any kind. He's a beautiful 16 year old boy now.

If we do 100 experiments that fail and then one is successful then we must reevaluate the parameters we want?
Try and deny it all you want, but both use the same logic at the end of the day. That’s a fact.

I definitely can relate to the helpless feeling when your kid is sick or hurt and you can only do so much to ease his pain.
I also have a toddler and we recently dealt with RSV.
My story comes from when I was around 10 years old. I went duck hunting with my dad and brother. It was a rainy evening but we decided to go see what we could shoot.
While hunting, the wind picked up. We were trying to pick up our decoys when we finished but the waves started to come over the side of the flat boat. We push poled over to the bank and bailed out most of the water and decided to make a run for our camp.
On the way to our camp, the boat again filled with water but this time we sank.
The three of us are standing on top of the boat in waste deep water just waiting for the guys we hunt with to realize something was wrong and to come look for us. Keep in mind, that it is dark and getting darker.
Finally we see them coming. 10 year old Bert is full of relief. And just as soon as we see them, they drive right by us heading to our pond that we can from. We were screaming and shooting a gun in the air but they couldn’t hear us over the motor of their flat boat. I was heartbroken and convinced that we’d die. In retrospect, I realize we would have survived, it just would have been a shitty night. But a 10 year old thinks it’s the end of the line.
Our hunting buddies got about 300 yards past us when their motor mysteriously just stopped. With the motor quiet, they could hear us screaming! They turned around and made a beeline for us! We were saved!
I truly believe that it was divine intervention that stopped that motor and allowed us to be heard.
