Pizza delivery guy for Gattis in S'port right out of HS and first year attending LSUS.
To this day, probably my favorite job ever...all the pizza you could eat, made pretty good tips, and free beer after we shut it down at night.

When I was 15, I was friends with a guy who's father was very wealthy. At least by our towns standard. He owned a 8,000 sqft home on about 150 acres. The summer before my sophomore year, his father paid me to work at his house all day. Dad would drop me off at 8am and mom picked me up at 3pm. I had a key and would do whatever job he had written down on a notepad in the kitchen. Usually involved landscaping maintenance like mulching, mowing, etc.. He kept a few Llhama and every now and then I would shovel their crap from the stable. Re-painting the porch, etc..
He paid me $9.00 an hour and I felt rich with that wage in 1985. But the perks were great too. He had a neighborhood sized pool with a springboard and 4 wheelers that he allowed mt to enjoy during my self imposed breaks. Later in life, I realized that he was just being charitable to me while getting some work done in return.. But I did work hard to impress him and earn my wage. He always seemed appreciative of how well I did a job.
Sadly, our employment arrangement didn't make it to the next summer. I was at a party later that year and went on a late night cruise with 3 other boys in one of their dad's convertibles. Somewhere along the way, my friend in the back seat decided it would be fun to start bashing mailboxes with a bat. He said"let's go do Mr. S's house and I practically begged him not to. Well, he did and word got around the next week or so. Mr. S found out I was in the car and wouldn't talk to me for about a year. Never confronted me but just never acknowledged me. Finally, after a year, I showed up at his house and explained what occurred that night. He said he was very hurt when he found out that I was complicit but also accepted my apology. Things never got back to where they were before though.

Annualized, that's over $18k. In 1985. $18k in 1985 has the same buying power as $39k in 2014 (source: LINK ).
Imagine being a kid pulling down $39k.

Mine was sweeping out a Winn Dixie construction site in the late 70's. This is back when 12-15 yr. olds could get away with this kind of thing and make "bank"!

Lifeguard at Blue Bayou. $4/hr was under minimum wage but an exception to the rule because it was a "seasonal" job. Otherwise it was a pretty sweet gig. Tan, flirt, or yell at people all day.

Worked for 1 day at Harb's Oasis the Saturday before Easter in high school because he said it would "get my foot in the door" for a summer position. He then proceeded to pay me cash at a lower rate than what we agreed upon and told me he didn't have a spot for me during the summer at the end of the day.
f that!!! I would have been a pissed a-hole leaving that place..
