It may have been dumb on the oil company's part, but it sure made a lot of people I know a lot of money. My family came out alright, but I do wish I had bought land with my dad a few years before when he asked me to.

There were definitely people who became instant millionaires just by owning land in the middle of nowhere.

There was fierce competition between the major players to acquire leasehold on publicly owned acreage. Once the bonus amounts paid to the various public entities was released prices spiraled out of control. As stated earlier, it escalated into a dick measuring contest.

I never understood why the executives of the various companies and analysts didn't foresee how the massive supplies bring found wouldnt drive down gas prices? Didn't anyone go big shorting gas?

Aubrey was buying acreage with stockholders money. Every time he could post that he acquired 10,000 or more acres in the shale the stock price went up, so therefore his stock options went up. So he kept on going. Crazy times. I spent over $50,000,000. In one day for a client.

I know we were hoping that our 160 acre outside of many was gonna get leased... it's family land, and I'm just one of the grandkids, so I wouldn't have seen any of it, but my uncle's who are in o&g were trying I think to get some interest in it thru their connections
