I dont think we needed to ally with the soviets. They were going to fight the Germans regardless of what we were doing. Hitler invaded them.
I would say nuking japan was an awful act that saved millions of lives. An invasion of Japan would have resulted in huge losses of life on both sides.

necessary evil allowed the Soviet Army to eliminate the Nazi threat in Europe, so it had to be done.

Yeah, things have been great since that corrupt old pedophile was installed in the WH.
Dumbass.

Had we not made it work first, NY would’ve been a smoldering ash tray thanks to Nazi cock sucker.

quote:Oh, the bomb most definitely convinced Japan to surrender unconditionally. No debating that, and that saved a lot of lives in 1945/1946.
The thought of using the bomb was to save lives. The propaganda Japan used was the Americans were evil and ate babies. If we did not use it, Japans civilians were devoted to fight to death.
But actually SEEING what the bomb could do, long term saved millions more. The USSR got what territory they did in Central and Eastern Europe at the end of the war... and that was it. They WANTED to take West Berlin and West Germany, they WANTED to move further West in parts of Europe. But they didn't, because of the bomb. They avoided the US directly, and the US avoided them directly after they developed their own. Remove nukes from the equation, and there's no reason Europe would not have seen another major war, as they had for the past couple centuries. Britain and France were depleted, Germany was a split husk, the only thing stopping the Red Army would have been the industrial might and will to fight of the US, a North American country that was getting tired of sending it's kids to Europe to fight and die. Western Civilization as we know it would be gone, it would be a Soviet dominated Europe.
The bomb broke that cycle, and major powers have not squared off since. Sure, there have been conflicts where powers have flexed, but nothing like their had been or could have been.

We probably bombed Japan because we needed to show the world what we could do. This of course saved a bunch of American lives but also brought the others out in groves
We bombed Japan so Nolan could win Oscar.
