Same here..most weekends were spent outside, doing something other than sitting on your arse, riding your bike everywhere and anywhere, jumping ditches like Evel Knievel.

in my neighborhood, kids weren't allowed to stay inside during the day. Some parents locked the kids out.

Yeah I think everyone thought the world was going to end as gas prices headed toward $1. The 50 cents I mentioned was circa 1974-75.

Born in the 80s, gas was under $1 then. Still remember .87 at the shitty racetrac. Those have blown up in LA recently.

I bought cigarettes at the store for my parents when I was like 8 years old. No questions asked.

Yep, my friend's Dad would send us peddling on our bikes to the Timesaver to buy him cigars.

They actually were out. It just wasn't a big deal at the time.

Hell, there were a boatload of gay singers and no one really cared.

I forgot something really hard to believe. Go Tigers! was spelled "Go Tigers."

Men wore suits to LSU games. There were no jerseys or LSU related wear. There was 'Band Night" at Tiger Stadium.

I, too, remember buying cigs for my parents at the tender age of 8.

I remember buying cigs for my dad from a vending machine at the front of the grocery store. Good times.

I remember watching Dazed & Confused back in the day and thinking "The 70s must have been awesome. You could get away with doing anything".

It wasn't all the Bee Gees and disco. Some of the best classic songs of all time came from the 70's.

When a car in the 70s reached 100,000 miles, they were done. They were practically a rolling bucket of bolts.

But it only cost like $6000 brand new for a 1978 Monti Carlo even a little less for a Toyota.

Summers off from school were longer. You could walk safely to the 7-11 to buy baseball cards and a big icee in a team cup. Sure we had only 3-4 tv channels, but in those days the tv didn’t rule our life. We played outside and settled our own disputes. You could make a few bucks cutting grass at age 12 or so because adults cutting on zero turns were not around yet.

This is a valuable aspect of being a kid that has been lost with all the kids playing on organized teams with adults calling the shots. As kids each of our teams would face off and argue about whether a runner was safe or the ball carrier stepped out of bounds, and if no resolution was reached we implemented the "do over".

Frick instant replay review. Part of the game is human refs/umps and sometimes mistakes are made. That’s life.
