Definitely heard the Richard Gere gerbil and Rod Stewart stomach pump stories in middle school in the late 80s.

Wild how stuff like that spread across the country without any social media or internet.

The lady who came home to her dog choking on fingers. They found a man in her closet with no fingers, in shock. Also my great grandmother told me of a lil girl she "knew". She was sleepwalking and went across the street and started swimming in the bayou. Her dad hollered at her, and she woke up and drowned cause she couldn't swim.

Parents telling their kids the police will stop you if you have the light on inside the car. I believed this well into my 30's :)

The one where my dad’s friend’s brother-in-law bought a new Ford truck and was getting 80 mpg. After about a month, some dudes in suits show up and offer to buy it back or swap it out for a higher-end model. Wasn’t supposed to be sold - somehow an “experimental engine” made it into a production vehicle and was sold by mistake. Said person refused the deal. Within a week, his truck was stolen.

the cheerleader having to get her stomach pumped after blowing the entire football team that your cousin's friend's older sister knew two towns over is an urban legend.

When I was a kid in the late 70's/early 80's there was a story going around for a while that Rod Stewart had to have this done after a night with some sailors and a trip to the emergency room.

This seems like you wanted to start a thread on one topic but made the subject completely different

You're 100% spot on. No way all these people to claim they personally see these occurrences are really seeing them. They are just repeating stories they heard.

Is it being a super common occurrence that bothers you? Or that people comment on it?

I mean I can get you 50 cents on the dollar for food stamps right now if I wanted to. Yes, there are people on food stamps driving brand new cars. Yes, the system is broken.

People that work for a living get shafted while people on the dole enjoy luxuries
