Regardless of the actual amount of sleep, having them on a regular routine is probably the more important factor.

I can't disagree with that. There is also an argument to keep them on the same schedule, regardless - school, summer, weekends - the consistency is more important in the long run that measuring the total hours. Quality of sleep is better than quantity as well.

x1000, if you can get a quick snooze and stop just short of REM, that's like an hours long super charge to the battery, after doing the weird circadian flip type of work that I have done for years I can will myself to sleep, if I have the opportunity to get a 15 minute snooze, I can sleep leaning against a wall

But again, it can't be stressed enough how important a good amount of sleep is for EVERYONE, especially growing and developing children. Just scientifically, it's better for them.

I honestly don't understand this bent against parents who have early bedtimes, like they are slave drivers or something. Guilty conscience?

Trust me, our kids, either by legit signs of fatigue (rubbing eyes, silly tired, stumbling around) or by behavior let us know that they need to get to bed.

School year is 8pm. Summertime is 830-900 but sometimes later depending on how they are behaving. Kids are 7 and 5.

Our 8 month old is asleep by 7/730 usually.

I'm considering pushing it back thought because she's awake between 5:45 and 6 most mornings. I'd like her to sleep until at least 6:30.

It's probably more that you came into this thread like an a-hole making a supposed joke about someone being a bad parent since they didn't do things just like you.

Not really. It might make me feel better if you'd chill the hell out, but I can't control people.

We never really had them after they were around seven or so . Let em sleep when they want to sleep . They'll figure it out. It worked for us .

You're the guy that came in hot to the thread insulting others and quoting your nurse wife as the end all be all of the science behind children's sleep times.

Same here. Wife and I both work. By the time we both get home it's 6/630. Then i try to squeeze in a 30 minute workout at home, feed him, give him a bath. By the time we are finished with all of that it's around 8:45 or so. We let him watch about 30 minutes of TV then put him to bed. Once in bed, we read him 3 stories.

That's a good mischaracterization of what happened.

I'm the one that got "questioned" about how early we put our kids to bed, so I offered an explanation. I aplogize for taking a dig at someone who just said "I let my kids do what they want", but I think him and I are cool now.

Yea, that's bullshite. No one questioned you before you posted this:

So are they grown up or are you just a bad parent?

And all I did was explain to you that it may not be a "guilty conscience" that made people disagree with you.

Just by your posts in here I can tell you're the type that thinks your way of parenting is the only correct way. Congrats on being that guy.
