Helicopter parents all up in here.
You guys are not preparing these kids for life. I get that you back up wake up time 7 or 8 hours during school.
I get that. But 1900 hours? During the summer time, that's up to 2 more hours of sunlight FFS. I think 9 p.m. is plenty early - almost restrictive. Kids are going to sleep when they're going to sleep. You can enforce quiet time, even "dark" time, but you can't make a kid go to sleep if he or she isn't ready.
Set the conditions for success, but don't be an arse about it. 7 p.m.? That's crazy.

what's bad about that? I always told my kids they could go to bed whenever they felt like it, but the first time they didn't get up on time or didn't finish homework, we go to plan B, never went to plan B, part of teaching them to be responsible baw

Was mainly a joke, but like I already stated, for us, we just need no kids time, especially when they still need to be supervised. We can't just tell them to go to the back of the house and keep it down.
Also, regardless of when they go to sleep, they always wake up at the same time, generally around 6:30 or so. So we're doing them a favor by making sure they get a good amount of sleep.

Kids need 11 hours of sleep? Seems like a lot.

My bed time was always 10:30. I came out just fine.

Sometimes I push for 16, but they resist it a good bit.

c'mon Ace, those 4-6 year olds need their rest so they can get up for travel ball practice at 0430, before their personal training session at 0630 before school!

How much blow-back do y'all get when trying to put them to bed?
My little dude fights the good fight for at least 20 minutes.
He gets up and leaves his room and I have to grab and put him back in bed. Sometimes he draws a line in the sand and gets up about 15 times...

Sleep foundation recommends 11-14 hours for 1-2 yr olds, 10-13 for 3-5 yr olds, 9-13 for 6-13 yr olds, 8-10 for teenagers.
Wife is a nurse so she holds a lot of stock in that.

No doubt there is some of this, but what I'm picking up in the thread is that these folks are clearing the runway, so to speak, for a 2 hour window, during which they can enjoy a 3 to 5 minute session of awkward, "trying to be quiet," married with kids kind of sex.

My bed time was always when MASH would go off after the 10pm Channel 4 news. So 11:05pm b/c for some reason MASH came on at 10:35pm
.....7 and 7:30pm bedtimes? WTF?

10:30....as long as she maintains a 85+ average across all classes. She's a junior and a good kid. "Usually" takes care of her class work without much intervention.

These little baws and guhs are napping like a mug during the day, still, though. They need 11 to 14 hours of sleep at night? From 1900 to 0700, uninterrupted?
Those are folks who simply haven't had children or didn't pay attention. I'm sure there are some kids who rack out 9 or even 10 hours overnight. But, most of those 3 and under are sleeping 3 or 4 hours during daylight, in 2 or 3 naps, and about 8ish (maybe more) at night.
My grandson prefers a short nap, a long nap and sleeps about 8 1/2 or 9 hours at night. And that's pretty typical of how my kids were when they were younger.
YMMV, of course, but blocking off a single 14-hour block of time for a kid to sleep is crazy as hell. I'd get a head MRI on them if any of mine did that.
