Not a sporting event per se....But I'd like to witness Kim Jong Il's 38 under par 34 in the Pyongyang Country Club.

I was fortunate enough to be there when LSU beat Oklahoma. If I hadn't been there, that would be my answer.
I'd pick the '08 US Open and follow Tiger on the back 9 on Sunday and the entire playoff on Monday

Secretariat's '73 Belmont. It had been a long time since a triple crown had been won and that is one of the greatest performances ever.
Literally opened the thread with this in mind

How in Gods name did it take this long for someone to mention The Hockey game that was the moment of the greatest sporting event in US history.

1958 NFL championship game. New York Giants v Baltimore Colts.
Called the greatest game ever played in the NFL. Roughing the passer did not exist in those days quarterbacks called the plays.

The genteel English folk of yore made good sport.
quote:
"At the Bear Garden, Hockley-in-the-Hole, 1710.—This is to give notice to all gentlemen gamesters, and others, that on this present Monday is a match to be fought by two dogs, one from Newgate Market against one from Hony Lane Market, at a bull, for a guinea, to be spent. Five let-goes out of hand; which goes fairest and farthest in wins all. Likewise a green bull to be baited, which was never baited before, and a bull to be turned loose, with fireworks all over him; also a mad arse to be baited. With a variety of bull-baiting and bear-baiting, and a dog to be drawn up with fireworks. To begin exactly at three of the clock."

Circuit de Monaco, while on the back of a 200+ foot yacht
Technically, the super yachts can't dock close enough to see the track, a 50 footer is a lt better choice. Since you didn't pick a year might I suggest 2006 and Kimi's yacht "One More Time". He crashed out and instead of going back to the paddock he just walked to the yacht and got in the hot tub, surrounded by drunk Finnish chicks. Nobody in the modern era partied like Kimi.
My choice is actually the 1995 European GP at the Nurburgring. It may have been Schumacher's greatest drive and cemented his title the rain meister. While I have been a life long Ferrari fan (Schumacher was still with Benneton at the time) the perfection of that drive was worth seeing Alesi lose in the Ferrari.
