Sounds like your BIL is a scaffold builder or something else along those lines

What kind of shite is that?

I didn’t talk to him today and I just found out because his wife told us what happened. I’m sure I will get a better understanding on the situation when I talk to him tomorrow. I was going to call him tonight but his wife said he was not in the mood to talk because he felt like he was between a rock and a hard place.

Trust me I wish this was fake but I don’t want to say the name of the company but it’s a big time name in Louisiana. He told me when they hired him that he was trying to get on with that company for the last five years.

Crane operators aren’t making $18/HR anywhere that a big company would be working. I would imagine that they have demoted him to a laborer.
If so the obvious answer is to find another job and brush up on some crane operator training if it was that bad.
I’m assuming that quitting on the spot is not a financial situation that works for him right now so he should be looking for a new job now while drawing a paycheck at current role.

First, try to get the old job back.
If that doesn't work out, tell him to go to work for the new place and sit on his arse until they fire him.

A contract has to be upheld by both parties, if he truly signed a employment contract for $30/hr the new company is legally required to pay him 30/hr for the duration of the contract. If it is a big company they have HR, get them involved.

Oh I don't think it is fake or that you are lying, it just sounds like they are scummy. I was just thinking that maybe they were trying to get him on board and then cut his pay right away regardless. It is fricked up to say that his work on Day 1 was unsatisfactory

No serious job would need you to start ASAP and not let you leave on good terms with the old job
Should have been a red flag right there

If he was a good or even just okay at his old job, they will definitely hire him back.
Back when I was a manager, I had an employee that quit to go do something else for more pay. I found out months later that he regretted it immediately but was too embarrassed to call me and ask for his job back. It was too late at that point, but I would have absolutely taken him back if he would have call. He wasnt the greatest employee but he wasn't the worst either.

I will encourage him to do that if it doesn’t work out with him and the new job.

This story sucks and smells of poverty.

He got hired to be a crane operator because he got his certification before the COVID shutdowns happened last year. He was doing something else the past 8 months and his cousin got him on this new job. His wife told him to try to get his old job back but he doesn’t feel like that will happen. He said he left his old job in a bind but he thought he couldn’t pass that opportunity up being the new job needed him to start right away.
Is this new company he’s at Cajun Industries?

What difference would that make in this situation?
