He left his $23 an hour job to work for a $30 an hour job for a big time company. He wanted to give his job a two week noticed but his new job needed him ASAP. His old boss was pissed but he had to do what he had to do and start his new job. This was his first week and today was his first real day on the job with the other days being in classes. He signed a contract that he was going to get paid $30 an hour with everything.

At the end of the day, his supervisor told him he wasn’t impress with his work on the first day and asked him to sign new papers that his pay would be $18 an hour. He was pissed and didn’t sign anything. I feel real bad for him because he was so excited about this new job to advance his career. Now, he doesn’t know what to do and I didn’t really know what to tell him on the situation.

Sounds like he has to undo what he has to undo?

I’ve legit never heard of this from a “big time company.”

And a big time company would certainly have an HR department to discuss this with.

Really sorry for him. Pretty crappy situation. Also the new company doesn't seem to have honor.

It doesn't sound big. You either keep him at the pay rate or let him go. You never make someone take lower wages and keep him if he is not good enough. His supervisor sounds shitty

No self respecting manager will cut a workers pay almost in half from seeing him work for only 1 day.

This makes no sense. No legitimate boss is going to do that after one day. You aren’t getting the entire story.

Sounds pretty simple: don't sign. If they were gonna fire him they wouldn't have offered the lower pay.

He got hired to be a crane operator because he got his certification before the COVID shutdowns happened last year. He was doing something else the past 8 months and his cousin got him on this new job. His wife told him to try to get his old job back but he doesn’t feel like that will happen. He said he left his old job in a bind but he thought he couldn’t pass that opportunity up being the new job needed him to start right away.

Well sounds like he needs to get that old job back. He’s only got one decision to make now.

Does he let his old boss go in raw or make him use protection.

Ole boy was told to take a 40% reduction in pay because some dickhead supervisor "wasn't impressed" after one day on the job? This is fake, but yer hypothetical BIL should tell new job to kick fricking rocks.

Yeah but I don’t think you’d want to have a job where they pull bullshite like that, on the first day nonetheless.
