So you’re going to waste 30k to live in a trailer for a few years with a wife and kids? Have fun with the future divorce

If you burn it, let the local FD do it; they can do training with it. Otherwise, try advertising it for free as-is, person wanting it assumes all cost for removal. Somebody can use it for a meth lab.

Probably what I’ll do. Didn’t think about calling the FD to use as training.

I wonder if doing that would make you eligible for a tax benefit?

Honestly don't know if it would or not, but it would be of interest to find out.

I was given in about that condition that I tore the roof and walls off and replaced the floor with lumber. Hauled it across a creek and use it for a bridge. I only drive the ranger or an ATV across is, dont know if I would trust it for a truck.

Get rid of it and build what will eventually be a sweet garage for your future house and live in that structure until you finish the house.

$30,000 to REPAIR a mobile home? The fact that you are even considering this proves you are a moron.

IF I did I’d rent it out to make that $ back. I wouldn’t sink $30k into it then lose $25k.

I’m buying some property near Baton Rouge with an old double wide being left on it at no value. It had a few inches of water in it during the 2016 flood and is gutted. Part of me wants to burn it to the ground and the other wants to spend a little money to fix it up and live in it without a mortgage for a few years until I build a house. It’s a 1993 model, 28x64 I believe. If I do some of the repairs myself I’ll be below $30k but that seems like too much to spend on a 25 yr old trailer. Thoughts?

I'd probably dismantle it and build a workshop on a concrete pad with the repurposed materials.

As a renter I agree.

haha I get it, but at the same time renting is good if you don't want to fix or maintain a house, so it works out sometimes.

Make sure that getting rid of the junker doesn't add to the tax of your land by way of getting rid of some type of homestead exemption (maybe a different term for simply livable rental property). There are a few states that if you have a livable structure then you get a tax credit. Doesn't matter if you actually live there or not.

I would be concerned about building a house on property where a mobile home flooded. Those things are 3-4 foot off the ground already

I’m Not from the LP. Never lived there, never will. But like many suggested I likely won’t do it unless it costs well below what I expect it to. Waiting on an estimate right now.

That was a great year for mobile homes. I believe it’s the first year with the new taillight shape.

Yeah it is nice that when something breaks, I just have to make a phone call.

It's also nice not being tied down to a location because we're not sure where we want to live long-term.

But man paying that rent every month hurts. I'd hate to go back and add up how much we've spent on rent over the last 4.5 years.

Most of this area flooded including my house. The trailer is at the lower end of the property and about 3 ft off the ground. I will build up. Plenty of room to dig a pond and use for a pad. 2 acres total.
