Dude my teen who decided to keep playing is 6’1” 210-215 in 9th grade and gets lost in the crowd. Got three kids 6’3”-6’4” 290+ with one who’s a fricking stud with ballerina feet.
One upside is he is a hard arse and in insane shape. He favors DE.....good thing. Oline is too competitive.

Yeah, Id say MLB. Don't be surprised if he's a DE though. They play like 7 techs at young levels.

Seriously who even lets their kid play football these days? Any kid with educated parents is playing some other sport. Hell it is just a matter of time before the rich school districts abandon the sport completely -- I give it 10 years.
The funniest part about all of this (to me, at least) is that odds are none of your kids will make any money doing it. So you are knowingly subjecting them to a sport that potentially causes brain damage for nothing but your own desire to make up for your own shortcomings by living vicariously through them.

Ive been involved in youth sports in my parish for nearly a decade. Ive seen worse injuries in baseball than I have football.

Football is the center of attention here on Friday nights in the fall. Pretty much everyone in town can see the lights from their house. My son grew up hearing the cheers from our yard and I don’t think he’s missed a home game in 3 years.

So let the kids stay inside and play video games instead of playing any sports? Got it

What about injuries to the brain?

That actually explains a lot. None of my youth coaches were very intelligent at all. Just sayin'.
As for "seeing" injuries -- the brain damage is a cumulative thing. Not necessarily something you "see" happen at one moment in time. No way I'm subjecting my kid to that. You guys do what you want. Free country, I guess.

Uh, you teach proper "heads up" tackling and that knocks the percentages of a head on collision down dramatically.

And how many kids do that? And how dramatically?

Sorry your dad was a fkn idiot. Sounds like he just threw you out at any practice that had a guy with a whistle so he could run home and bang your mom instead of actually talking to your coaches to gauge if they were gonna teach you safe techniques so you wouldn't get hurt.

We start every practice with our heads up drills at a walking fit/freeze pace.

I coach 10u tackle.
OL is the answer you’re looking for. They rarely end up on ground much less hit.
DE generally just busts the play up, or chases from behind. They rarely have a RB driving into them.
Meanwhile, QB gets hit EVERY play. These kids don’t stop after the whistle or even bother seeing if he handed the ball off.

Wow dude.
You may not know this, but football is extremely fun to play. Kids like the challenge and they feel proud of themselves when they play a physical game.
