Rouge gets it.
Diversity sounds good to our feelings.
What makes something great is a single solitary purpose. These countries are not diverse. Not much immigration.
Think like Chick-Fil-A or In-N-Out burger.
They make ONE thing and do it great.
The more you try to diversify and do everything, the more crappy you become. (Wal Mart).

I believe their taxes are high, but I also believe that many of the people who use tax funded programs there also pay taxes.

Not really. Mexico is a fairly wealthy country. I'm more surprised by Brazil being higher than Mexico.

Most of those top 10 countries have a Democratic Socialist form of government. It works for them because they have small populations and virtually everyone who is able contributes to the system by working. Very few attempt to game the system.
This approach would never be successful here.

Ummmm. That is certainly not the case in many of those countries. Check the tax rates.

Why the frick do we care about being the "happiest" country in the world? Being happy is found in being content in what you have, being comfortable where you are, etc. But damn it, we're Americans! We're explorers, pioneers, and adventurers! We built this great country on the backs of people who were not content; we went to the fricking moon because we weren't content. We explore and innovate every day because we are not content with where we are. It is in our DNA to not be the happiest country on the earth. Why the hell should we care?
