I'm not shitting on Texas because I like much of the state but this one is overplayed. Taxes are about a wash with many other southern states. The method of collection is just different

You can write off property and sales tax in Texas I believe.

Others states are either or on state income and sales taxes.

3) The people in Dallas can't figure out how to finish highway construction that seems to get worse every time I drive through there.

What?

If you actually live here, you can tell the improvement helps, it's just that the projects are very much involved.

Texas is a pretty good state. It does have a few problems.
1) Austin is a sewer of liberal group think and is truly one of the most intolerant places I've ever seen. You can do and say anything you like, so long as it fits their script. They are bigots and don't even realize it. Dangerous combination.

I agree but the same (but opposite values) for groupthink can be said for almost all other southern states. TXat least has some balance in that Houston and east TX is very conservative and Dallas somewhere between. It's still overall conservative by a pretty big margin.

You can write off state taxes and property taxes in LA. Property taxes are actually my least favorite of all taxes. It means that you never truly own your property. Sales taxes are the only fair tax in my opinion. Drug dealers, illegals and prostitutes still have to pay.

I lived in Bulverde for like 3 years as a kid. Got some family in Austin. Other family in New Hampshire where I was born (and obviously originally from). I'll be in Texas for New Years. My girl has never been. Thought it'd be fun to catch up with some family and then do our own thing.

Not sure what New Year's is like in Austin but in H-town and DFW there's a shite ton going on. You'll enjoy yourself regardless.

There is always something to do.If you can find something to do that's on you.

As much as I hate income taxes I'd rather pay them and have zero property tax.

It's been perpetual construction for over a decade. In the past traffic would slow to like 40mph through some of those zones. I just drove through there a couple weeks ago and it was 5mph. It's gotten worse.

I'd rather see my taxes working in general. You don't see that in LA.
