What Makes Texas So Great?

Probably the greatest state in the God-fearing USofA. No doubt in my mind they could thrive as an autonomous territory unaffiliated with the US.
So what makes them so special? Their history? Their tax policies? Their people? Their natural resources? Their laws in general? Aware me of these things, OT.

Because it's giant.
You've got enough space to have massive oil fields in the west, beautiful hills in the south, tech hubs in Dallas and Austin, refineries with access to the gulf and south LA in Houston, etc
It's essentially several states in one because each of the regions are completely different.

Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio trump any other collective 4 cities in any other state in most categories. Good blend of southern conservative\progressive values with a lot less crime than most.
