What legitimate recourse can we put on falsely reported information?

This BR shooting fiasco just makes me think there has to be some legitimate consequences for false reporting. In the world we live in, shite can be stirred and lives can be ruined by the click of a button on our phones.

To recap, they first said it was an active shooter, then just two guys with guns, now reporting no shots fired. HOW is that possible?

Don't forget that the press claims to be the "4th branch of government".

Except there's no check on their bullshite.

The "journalist" profession today is filled with professional activists. They are about as trustworthy as a billboard lawyer, used car salesman, etc.

Stop using lying sources. It's not rocket science.

Sad thing is, I went straight to the OT to find out what was going on when I heard about it. Best, and fastest, source of news in town.

When the mf started shooting, he became an active shooter. There’s no question about that. Coming off the heels of the two recent mass shootings, I’d say the initial reports and police response were prudent.

Y’all some lil whiney motherfrickers

OT's version for this one was the same as the news.

And someone got hurt by a stampede in the Walmart due to the false news alert issued on the phone.

It's the "first to report" phenomenon. Everyone wants to be first and run with the wildest rumors. Almost NEVER is the first report from an active shooter/terrorism situation ever true. Almost always we hear it's a band of shooters. Then it turns into 2 shooters with one in custody and one on the run. Then it turns into 1 shooter with a few unknown accomplices who provided support. Then it turns into 1 shooter with no help.

It's all ridiculous, but it's the world the press lives in. You gotta write the headlines to stay in bizness.

You mean the recent news elsewhere in the country gave WBRZ a unique opportunity to distribute fake news and fear monger for clicks.

How long have you been an activist for WBRZ?

Someone could create a LIAR website dedicated to journalists and news outlets who falsely report and distort the truth in their reporting of the news, backed up with the actual facts to call them out.
