Once upon a time, there was an omnipotent retard that regularly stole the bread from those that toiled to earn that bread and other necessities of life. The retard was worshipped and rewarded by the slothful and envious, thus emboldening it to steal more and more.

Story 1: Terrifying at the time, but there’s a possible mundane explanation.
I was falling asleep and suddenly felt an oppressive presence. I couldn’t open my eyes, get up, or move. Then there was a roaring in my ears of a thousand voices. I was terrified at my helplessness. Then slowly the roaring faded and the presence receded. Then I could move. I searched the house but was alone. I’ve been told it’s a classic account of night terror.
Story 2: There was no normal experience or explanation, therefore it’s the most terrifying.
I was in high school and was the driver on a double date. My friend was on his first and last date with a girl from uptown New Orleans. After a dance that was held at a school in uptown New Orleans, I was driving around randomly asking everyone what they wanted to do with the rest of the night. No one had a suggestion for a few minutes. Then the new girl suggested we park in a small cemetery a few blocks away. We did. No one was saying anything. I was just looking around, when the new girl said, “Wouldn’t you like to open a tomb and look in?” I felt a psychological compelling force behind the suggestion. I looked in the rear view mirror at her. She was sitting in the middle of the rear seat staring me in the eyes. I looked over to the right and my girlfriend was leaning forward and against the front door with her head down. I looked behind me to the left and my friend was cringing against the left side away from his date. I looked back in the mirror and she was still looking me directly in the eyes. There was a pale green tinge to her face.
I started the car and drove her straight home. She got out without a word, and started walking towards her front door. I then drove my friend home. As soon as he got out, a pulled off and drove my longtime girlfriend home. She got out, and I drove straight home and went to bed. No one had said a word after she had suggested looking inside the tomb.
Two days later, was Monday at school. I told my friend that that was a strange date. He agreed. I said she had been staring me in the eyes the whole time. He said no. She had been staring at him the whole time. That night I called my girlfriend for the first time after that Saturday night double date. The conversation mirrored the one earlier in the day with my friend. She too insisted that the other girl had been staring at her the whole time!
No one spoke of the experience again. My girlfriend and I broke up a couple of years later.
I brought up the experience with my friend about 45 years later during a remember when conversation. We both agreed it was an extremely weird experience. Then he said he could swear she had a deathly green aura around her while she was staring at him!
I get the creeps to this day at that memory!

I once was in a state park up east of Seattle taking my time photographing waterfalls. I had been there previously so I knew the area fairly well but a recent storm had blown down trees across some of the trails to it was a slow process getting to some of the places I wanted to try out a new lens.
Deep into my processes, I realized it was getting late and figured getting back by the trail I had taken probably would have me doing it in pitch black darkness.
I had a rough map of the park and knew there was an old logging road atop the little mountain and figured it would be my best shot on getting out of there with any daylight at all. So, I started climbing over logs, vines, rocks and all sorts of debris trying to get to the top. I had some reservations in using my hands in the undergrowth but being in the dark on the side of a mountain trumped the fear of grabbing onto some biting creature. Alas, in 20 or so minutes, I reached the already darkening clearing but felt relief that I wasn't down along the river still crawling over fallen trees.
As I began walking another half mile toward my car, I was seized by a deep feel of dread just short of panic and would stop every so often to look back and listen to the dead silence of the forest. Fearing I was being stalked, I took my tripod, unfolded the base and spread my jacket over the top, and raised it above my head, hoping to give the appearance of a creature much larger than myself.
I've been in a underwater cave with a 10 foot shark while scuba diving, I've been knee deep on creosote bushes in the New Mexico deserts stirring up rattlesnakes, and the only white guy sitting in a laundromat alongside a dozen Cholos before, but the fear that had overwhelmed me in those woods, has remained in me to this day that made those other adventures seem like a nursery rhyme.
It was the deep fear that I was being stalked by something much more powerful than myself and I will NEVER go back to those woods.
