re: What is your opinion on Ross Ulbricht (Dread Pirate Roberts from Silk Road)

He is a fricking moron. Apparently, despite the fact that he had one of the largest drug markets in the world *and* was doing business in bitcoin when it was much cheaper, he somehow managed to not get stupid rich. He was arrested at the place he was sharing with his roommates.
If I ever run a drug market that size with thousands of BTC exchanged every day, there's no way I'm doing it for internet freedom and hippie ideals. I'd have more money than the DEA, insanely hot women in my harem, and the very best lawyers. I'd own the legislature and pass laws in my favor just so I could actively taunt law enforcement and get away with it.
Somehow, he totally missed this boat and decided hanging out with roommates at his flat was a better way to spend his time.

, but it's hard for me to advocate for his release based on the path he was heading down with the murder for hire to protect himself and his "empire"
Isnt relevant because

none were included in his conviction.

He got off pretty easy.
They murdered his successor (Alpha Bay Brah) in his jail cell in Thailand.

Sure, he did nefarious things but I have a hunch he's the dark web poster child.
Google Alexandre Cazes. He was the 2.0 version and was living the dream until he fricked up, got caught, and got himself suicided in jail.

I can't believe this is even something a potential lawmaker would speak to the Pres about honestly.
I thought Steve King was already in Congress.
Either way, he’s red pilled.

That WIRED article was an incredible read.

He tried to have his enemies murdered.
This was never proven in court. He was never charged nor convicted for any murder for hire or attempted murder.
Ulbricht was convicted of money laundering, computer hacking, conspiracy to traffic fraudulent identity documents, and conspiracy to traffic narcotics by means of the internet in February 2015. He is currently serving a double life sentence plus forty years without the possibility of parole.
He was basically convicted of building a website that allowed other people to sell drugs, launder money and sell fake id's. He got a double life sentence plus 40 years which is just insane.

A man who was overcharged and shouldn’t be in prison. He wasn’t a murderer in the least bit.
Free Ross!!
Free Ross!!

Do you think all drug traffickers should be released from prison?

It has never been proven that Ross ever sold drugs on the silk road. He simply provided a platform for others to do so & then profited from it.

The 2.0 version was actually Blake Benthall. Once worked for space x and had the server hidden at some top secret google server location in europe. Bought a tesla in btc, totally not sketchy and putting you on the radar.

He was an anarcho capitalist who wanted to change the world.
He also went to Westlake high school which is very familiar to me.
I say free him, but I am pretty biased. As long as he himself didn’t sell any heroin/meth/crack I say free him.

If it's just sitting there not being used, no not really.

My stance is that violent and non violent crimes should be prosecuted and punishment should be doled out for each.

He got railroaded by the Feds. They concocted a fake murder-for-hire plot to put him away for life, when otherwise he would have gotten like 10-15 years. They wanted to make an example out of him.
