Ruger LC9. When I bother to get my CC license, I'll carry it as well.

And it's not an irrational fear

I was the victim of an armed robbery when I was young, and I lived through it. My buddy's mom wasn't so lucky... They shot her in the head while she was tied up in her bedroom. She lived in a very nice neighborhood in a town with very low crime rates.

Some people definitely overestimate the possibly that they will be killed by the bad guys, but I don't understand not giving yourself a chance if you're in that situation. I'm not talking about spending thousands on guns and stockpiling ammo... But at least get a shotgun to protect your family just in case.

There will be always be people with irrational fears, including those who are terrified of guns. To answer the question, I have an M&P 9mm in the night stand and a 12 gauge under the bed. If we have visitors with children the handgun goes in a gun vault and the shotgun in the safe.

Sorry to hear. Hope you adjusted well.

I'm not sure why I even responded the first time...looks like an obvious troll.

This is best if one has family members in the house. Sheetrock will slow down OO buckshot were it will not slow down a hand gun shot.

Used to keep a .45 loaded till one night I woke up hearing something in the house. With gun in hand, I started to check, ready to used said gun. I came very close to shooting my own son that night. He came home without letting us know he was coming. Scared the livin shite out of us. After that night, he will call before showing up no matter what time it is.

Meh, it hasn't had any lasting effects on me.

Truthfully, the two families that I know that have dealt with home invasion robberies changed my thinking far more than my experience. In one of those encounters, everyone survived and the intruders were almost polite during the encounter. I already told you what happened during the other.

I'm not paranoid about this stuff. I'm aware that it's rare to be killed during a home evasion robbery, but it certainly can and does happen. So, why not take a few reasonable steps to protect yourself? IMHO, a dog is probably the best thing you can do to prevent yourself from becoming a victim.

Prior to the boating accident, there was a Smith 357 in close proximity to my head during sleeping hours. Since the accident, I sleep in all rooms of the house at different times and have noticed strategically placed firearms in all rooms of the house for security and peace of mind.

Best protection is a good dog. I have 3 and no one can even come in my yard without them knowing they are there.

I live in the country.

Custom built 300 blackout. I keep it in the safe and put the key in the keyhole when I sleep. I'm garbage with a pistol and don't trust my life with my pistol shooting abilities. I'm not afraid to hit my child since she sleeps in the bed with me. Also have a benelli 12ga with 00 buck In the safe but 30rds makes me feel more comfortable than 3. Once my daughter gets older and starts sleeping in her own room, I may change to my 12ga as my go to gun.

I do not live in the ghetto, and I am not filled with irrational fears, so I do not need to keep guns in my home -- much less by my bed.

What a silly thought. I don't live in the ghetto but I keep a gun in my home for protection because you never know what situation might arise where you'll need it. Not advocating buying a shitton of guns and a cellar of ammunition, just basic protection.

My parents live in a very rich neighborhood, one of the nicest in the New Orleans area (just to reference -- when he used to play for the Hornets, Peja Stojakovic's agent once offered to pay my parents to move out and let him rent the house). Just on the next street over, recently there was a home invasion. One time when I spent the night there like 6 years ago, I accidentally left my car unlocked and someone stop my binder of CDs out of my car.

shite happens, everywhere. It's part of humanity.

Don't need a gun at this point. I live in a place where anyone who made it in my house must have a good reason to kill me
