John J. Audubon's Mallard Ducks hangs over my fireplace. It's a print from the R. Havell coloring period

I don't pretend to act like I understand abstract art or anything so my taste in paintings is relatively simple. I like art deco type stuff and I like western art (G. Harvey paintings are some of my favorites).

Who down voted my post?

Do Audubon's not count since it was sketched by him then colored in later by someone else?

Love the painting in OP. I've been making an effort of seeing more art in person; famous pieces are so much more awesome in person.

As of right now, I'd have to say Van Gogh's Sailor Painting. It looked amazing in person, and you could see all the brush strokes. Very good piece.

Solid choice. I just posted a G Harvey as well My in-laws have a bunch of them and I always love looking at them. They even have an original that is incredible.

It's a toss up between any of the Blue Dog paintings and the nude I have of your mom.

Anything by Van Gogh, Gaugin, or Cezanne. In paintings I prefer impressionism over precision, and their broad strokes, colors, shapes, and lines over the softness of Monet and Manet. Rembrandt, IMV, is the most technically brilliant of any painter... his work is astonishing.... but his realism is a bit creepy to me.

I have really liked Seurat's A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. I first saw this in a 7th grade art class and have been enthralled ever since. The fact that it is done not with brush strokes but with individual dots of paint is amazing, and even more mind blowing when you consider the size - almost 7 feet tall and over 10 feet wide.
