SOHC 36V 6.0L twin-turbo V12, was rated at 604 hp and 740 torque in most cars except the SL65 Black Series, where it made 661 hp.
Very reliable and durable for such a complex powerful engine, other than that they eat coil packs every 30k miles or so. Plenty out there with 100k+ miles and no issues.
Capable of 700+ hp and 900+ torque with stock fueling/pistons/crank/turbos.
Crazy reliable. Besides the $3k for coil pack replacement it runs like a top. Can hardly hear it running either. Smoothest power yoy could ask for.

That 4.0L straight six is probably the most reliable engine I have ever owned. No fuss, simple, easy to work on.

Ford 4.9l
Nissan vq40
They are both incredibly reliable workhorses.

1970s 25HP Johnson Outboard. The most reliable engine/motor I have ever owned and it ain’t close. Put mine through the ringer for years in the marsh and fishing Calcasieu, Sabine,, Rayburn, Toledo Bend, and everywhere in between. God I loved that motor.

My vehicle will fall apart before her power plant even thinks about giving up the ghost.

quote:
Chrysler’s 4.0L Straight Six Engine The 4.0L AMC inline six is known as one of Chrysler’s best engines.
Dating back to 1986, its torquey 190 hp engine would commonly chug along for upwards of 300,000 miles. Over the course of nearly 20 years this engine was refined and tweaked before being phased out in 2006.
The inline six has powered Cherokees, Grand Cherokees, Wagoneers, Wranglers, and even Comanches. We think its best known for its time with the Cherokee, but it remains a major selling point no matter what it’s been dropped in.
Unfortunately, the AMC 4.0L inline six was replaced by the 3.8 OHV V6, which originated in Chrysler minivans. We think we’re not alone in saying that a minivan engine doesn’t belong in a Wrangler.
The Inline six survived until 2006, and it will go down in history as one of, if not the most legendary workhorse engine Chrysler has ever made.
In short, we just have one request of Chrysler executives. Please, bring this beast back. Also, for future engines, if it’s not broken don’t fix it.

I have been looking for a quality 4.0L in a cherokee the last few months. Those things are at the point of starting to increase in price.
The 3.8 is a dogshit motor that should never be spoken about. I hate every single thing about it including how the oil plug crossthreads just by looking at it.

Mercury is a good car. I've had a lot of cars. Different kinds. Lot's of different kinds of cars. this girl was standing on the side of the street where there was this chicken stand. I pulled the Mercury up right along side her and rolled down the window. She had on a leather skirt and had a lot of hair on her arms. I like that a lot. That means a big bush. I like a big bush. She says, "Are you dating?" You know, so I said, "Sure". She gets in and we pull off to a remote location that was comfortable for both she and I. She says, "How much do you wanna spend?", I said, "Whatever it will take to see that bush of yours because I know it's a big one". She says, "Twenty five dollars". That's not chicken feed to a working man so I produce the $25, she puts it in her shoe, pulls up her skirt and there before me lay this thin, crooked, uncircumcised penis. You can imagine how bad I wanted my $25 back, huh?

Muscle car era when they made HP the old fashioned way - displacement and carburetors:
The Chevy L-88 427 - just a brute
or
MOPAR 426 hemi - another brute
or
MOPAR 340 - amazing power for displacement
or
The Chevy small block - started as the 265/283/327 - evolved to still be viable today
or
Ford 428 Cobra Jet - beast
or
Chevy 454 - another beast

If we're doing 1L
The yamaha 1L 3 cylinder is astounding. There are stock bore versions pumping 550hp.
And stock compression is over 240 psi per cylinder.

Mine is a bit closer to "Before" than "After".
But hums along and never overheats.
Put yourself one of these in it when the time is right. Quite reasonably priced and easy install.

FlowKooler water pumps solve low-speed overheating problems by doubling the water flow rate at low RPM & idle.
At 3,500 RPM the flow rate returns to normal to prevent excess water flow at high speed.
Independent testing proves that FlowKooler water pumps produce 20% more gallons per minute at 2000 RPM & 100% more gallons per minute at 900 RPM than any other pump on the market today, including expensive racing pumps.
quote:
FlowKooler pumps also generate 22% more water pressure inside the engine block than other water pumps. This increased pressure helps suppress engine hot spots, steam pockets, and pinging. In addition to higher output, the FlowKooler water pump is up to 32% more efficient than other pumps, meaning less horsepower is required to turn it. The result is overall lower operating temperature by as much as 30 degrees when cruising at low speeds. All pumps are brand-new (not rebuilt) and are covered by a 2 Year Warranty.
