Nationally, it’s hard to beat FloraBama. Anyone who’s been there will tell you why.

Locally, I really have a soft spot for the Ivy in Buckhead. The place is always bumping and the drinks are great, albeit expensive recently. The patios on both levels are good for chilling and hanging out, and there are two dance floors as well. Can’t beat it as a football watching spot either. Even as a UT fan I enjoy watching UGA games there.

You can definitely do bumps at the ivy alright

I used to tolerate it when I was younger but even then it was just too much. Too crowded, too loud, too many tryhards. Now that I'm older you couldn't pay me to go

I went twice 17 years or so ago. My experience will probably not be reflective of the situation.

Ipso Facto in Osaka.

It's located in a back alley, it's about 500 sq ft total, there are only 4 stools in the whole place, and the owner of the bar also lives there. The spirits share shelf space with canned vegetables and when you sit at the bar, there's about an inch from the back of your head and the clothes that are hanging on the rack. There's a little cot on the far side and a hot plate on the bar. It's amazing.

The bartender/tenant is the nicest dude on the planet, gave us the best bar snacks, has an amazing selection of liquor. Such a unique experience and a dive-bar lover's dream.

Runner-up is the Ninja Bar in Tokyo.
It's located in a pre-war tunnel underneath a train station, the entire tunnel smells like sewage. It's only about 5 bar stools and one high-top inside, and a high-top outside. They have an extensive sake collection...the sakes come in little jars and the owner (who dresses up like a ninja) lets you keep them. We collected them like the jelly jars from the 90s, and now I use them as wine glasses. They serve complimentary popcorn dusted with nori flakes, and they sell squid snacks, which go nicely with sake.

Third favorite is Paddy's Lunch in Cambridge, Mass. Surly Boston bartender, cash-only, clunky cash register from the 50s, cheap drinks, townies, Keno.

The one in my living room because it is open 24/7 and I do not have to worry about wearing a mask.

That sounds really cool. With it being so tiny and only 4 stools is it basically "show up and hope there's a stool open" or do you need to call ahead or something?

I mean, we stumbled in from a back alley, and I guess it's good nobody else showed up that night because we took up all stools. I guess we could have tried to stand, but there's not really any standing room. The owner was so nice, I bet he would have let us sit on his bed

I guess if you are a local and love the place, you could call and see if there is room, but we don't speak the language all that well, so we'll just take our chances next time we're there.
