650/mo - Groceries (family of 5)
I must be screwing up big time. I'm at 300 a month for myself only.
It's odd because i buy and eat those large chicken breast packages for dinner, eat sandwiches everyday for lunch, and one hot pocket for breakfast.

Rent - $1400
Utilities - $100
Car Insurance - $50
Cable/Phone - $280
Can't think of any other set bills. Single and no kids. I walk to work so gas is minimal unless I go on a road trip. Income $140,000/year. Hoping to retire and live nice before 50. Still spend a lot on entertainment tho.

We shop mainly at Costco and Aldi. That covers 90% of our grocery needs. The remaining 10% we go to trader joes or Hyvee.
If you stick to buying off of grocery ads week by week you can get a lot of food for cheap.

My wife has a specialized set of skills that the bay requires which bumps her pay significantly. If we went elsewhere her salary would be halved minimum

Our grocery spending averages $900 per month for a family of 3 with mainly organic purchases. Food and dining which would include bars, restaurants, etc would be closer to $1300. We need to work on getting that number lower.

So it's safe to say 1000$ isn't far off for a family of two who rarely cooks then.
My breakfast is ~4-5$, lunch ranges from 10-15, dinner together is ~30$
That over a month with a good meal on occasion adds to more than our cars

North of $2000 for rent is high outside of places like NYC and greater Los Angeles.
Low rent or ghetto areas maybe. A close friend of mine recently bought a very small, 2BR, 1 bath, 1200 sq.' "starter home" in Pac. Palisades.... his monthly note.... "only" $7,500. Now if you want to live in Malibu, it's nothing to pay $40,000 a month. That'll get you a rental place about like the average "nice" condo in Baton Rouge.
