With the poor girl that was found dead, it got me thinking. What is worse, having a loved one murdered, or having them take their own life? Obviously both are terrible. Is there more closure with one or the other?

My dad killed himself 15 years ago, and I still do not know the answer. I like to think I am over it now, but I went through bouts of sadness/anger/understanding/hatred over an over trying to get through it.

Not a post I expected to see on Easter and I have no answer but sorry for your loss. I can not even imagine dealing with either.

I am sorry for your loss and the death of a child is heartbreaking-but starting a thread about it on a sports forum? Not sure I'm comfortable answering your question here.

ETA:Just saw your second post.

I mean I think someone being murdered is worse. The fact that another human being has the pulse to end another persons life is disgusting and that would bother me way more. I still would be sad if they committed suicide.

Suicide is the most selfish act someone can do.

Murder is way worse. This isn't even debateable.

Killing someone else to benefit or satisfy yourself is more selfish.

I agree, which is what makes this question so tough.

Suicide is much worse as most loved ones are left feeling guilty for not doing more to prevent it.

Murder can happen to literally anyone - it is unfortunate but in most cases loved ones can at least find closure in the perps conviction or death.

Depends on the method of murder/suicide. I'd imagine getting burned alive would be worse than a bullet to the head.

I've lost a family member to suicide.

I think murder is way worse.

No, suicide isn't selfish. You're selfish for thinking that. I don't agree with suicide but you probably don't know exactly how much pain they were in or what it's like to be literally hopeless.

Any ways, while both are tragic.. Murder is worse. IMO

No. No it is not.

The person committing suicide may feel they have somehow become a burden to those that are close to them and feel that they have no way out of their current predicament.

You don't know what demons people have when the go through this.

You're ignorant to other's pain. Not everything in the world is hunky dory.

Suicide hurts, but murder is worse.

Murder is the act of someone else taking their life. Not on their terms. That's far worse. Plus it's even worse if someone got away with it.

Yes you might feel bad from suicide but murder would also include rage and even more devastation IMO.

I can't see how a life ended on another's terms.. Against your will.. Isn't worse.

Yeah thinking about your problems your pain and not about your loved ones or people who care about you is not selfish at all. Or maybe the man/woman who is going to clen up your stinking corpse after you kill yourself because your life was just so tough. Weak and selfish.

This.

Have some of you just never heard of mental illness or depression before? You think people just wake up and go, "Oh wow, it's 72 outside, what a perfect day to off myself for my family and friends to find"?

Everyone is different, everyone has a breaking point. When people sit there and say it's selfish, it's the easy argument because someone left you and you want to be mad they didn't stick around because of your feelings.

I have lost four people throughout my life to suicide and they were some of the most caring and selfless people I knew.
