There’s a “make it someone else’s problem” attitude that is pervasive throughout the state and country - lack of personal responsibility. And having scumbag political leaders who never take responsibility nor solve problems does not help. So frick it.

It’s both cultural and generational. Our state’s low collective IQ and lack of education are major contributors. Many of the worst offenders have never had any sense of personal responsibility. It’s one reason the same minority demographic commits a majority of the crimes. No one wants to hold them accountable. And I don’t mean to imply it’s only one demographic either, there are plenty of ignorant folks that DGAF.

And LO-fricking L at those suggesting that the majority of the trash beside the road is from trash trucks. While some of it might be, most is heaved out of car windows, or dumped out of pickup trucks intentionally. The Mall of Louisiana parking lots generally look so much like a landfill I’m surprised there aren’t seagulls circling.

Increase the fines (AND put habitual offenders picking up trash beside the highways). Do that, and allow anonymous citizen reporting (everyone has a camera phone) using a system like Crimestoppers with a couple of bucks reward if the dumpster gets charged. Use the fines to finance the system and pay for tips. Give the ones caught a vest of shame to wear while picking shite up, word would get out.

LA population has low expectations and no pride of place, and so dumping out trash seems ok far too often.

Between the trailer park trash and the ghetto trash, what falls out of garbage trucks is infinitesimal.

I made a point to fuss about litter in front my kids so that they grew up hating litter without me ever having to tell them anything. So if I’m walking in the park or woods with my son he’ll proactively grab any trash laying around.

When you have no respect for human life being trashy is low on the totem pole.

It is embarrassing .

I went to pick up a client at the airport here in Baton Rouge and getting back on I-110 at the Harding on ramp there is a mattress (looks like an elephant gave birth on it ) ,3 sacks of crawfish heads, and a headless dead dog carcass on the side of the on ramp.

Next up was the dirty arse state capitol building that resembles a filthy dildo used by a giant hippo.

Whenever I'm driving to Florida, the stretch of I-10 from Mobile to Florida always seems spotless. That particular stretch, for whatever reason, always seems cleaner than any stretch of highway I ever see. It's not necessarily indicative of the rest of the state, but it's something I've always noticed.

I live by the bars on Perkins Overpass. Its a direct correlation between nasty cheap beer and littering. I never see any beer bottle that costs over $5 thrown all over the place.

I guess it's the way people were raised?

I had a buddy from BTR that would just throw his Micky D's trash out the window going down the road. No thought to it at all.

I did convince him to at least throw it in the bed of his truck.

Sounds like there needs to be better rule of law down there.

It is really bad around Morgan City. Tires, mattresses, etc. Which i can't understand because there is literally a landfill on the other side of the river the general public can go to dump their bulk garbage.

I wish that they'd crack down on it. Not much more infuriating than seeing someone throw trash out of their windows. Also, not really sure when and why it became normal for people to throw their cigarette butts out the window, or on the ground, but that shite annoys me to no end as well. People act like cig butts are some kind of exception to littering for some insane reason.

Out west, if someone sees you doing shite like that, they will call you out on it very quick.

In the southeast, if you call someone out on littering, then you run the risk of someone shooting you.

As has been re-iterated, its simply a lack of general respect for their environment, themselves, and the people around them.
