Many years ago there was a guy in Lafayette named Darrell Flinn with a public access tv show on Acadiana Open Network where he'd dress in his outfit and burn crosses live on the air.
Oh crap! I hadn't thought about that in a long time. That was when AOC (Acadiana Open Channel) just started. Wow! Can you imagine if they tried that today?

any time i have ever stopped for diesel in Vidor, which is quite a lot, all i have ever seen are black and mexican people. if it's the KKK infested whiteville that is reputed to be, they're doing a really, really shitty job.

They built a lot of Government housing there in the 90s and beyond so some areas are not as white as they used to be.

All the census data disagrees with that.

Vidor used to be a sundown town with KKK ties a long time ago. Couple that with the Jasper Texas dragging years ago and people are still scared of it based purely on reputation.

I grew up in Vidor and graduated from there. It is like most small Southern towns… Are there racist people there? Yes. More than other cities? No.
However, it doesn’t matter, the stigma will always be there. Especially now with social media running the world, all it takes is one post and it’s brought up again.
There are a lot of really great and wonderful people who live there, who really and truly want to change how people think of it. But the fact of the matter is, the reputation of the city’s past is never going to go away.
Whenever anyone asks where I’m from, I just tell them Beaumont now. When I used to say I was from Vidor, the first thing they would ever say in response was something to do with racism. It got old real quick having to have that conversation.
As far as the methheads, that is 100% true lol

There are a lot of Hispanics there, so I wouldn’t say it’s 95% white. But for sure at least 90%
