Thats what they want you to think

This is how they make you think that.

These BR 'elites' have a higher debt/equity ratio than most 'normal' people I am willing to bet

If you already don’t then you can’t

Baton Rouge has always been a place where somebody with no connections can get a leg up, which is rare in Louisiana.

I don't know if I agree with this. People that came into BR for school or to work in the plants are pretty welcoming because they are trying to make new friends. People that are born and raised in BR can be very cliquey and snooty.

I don't know, but my ex girlfriend was listed as one of 225's most eligible bachelorettes a few years ago.

They can have her.

Of course. I'm definitely not speaking in absolutes. I have a good friend who is a Catholic High grad and one of the most personable people I have ever met.

On the other hand, my gf just got transferred from NOLA to BR for work. She started going to the Orange Theory in towne center and experienced first hand how unwelcoming the "BR elite" can be. Especially from the female side.

I went to high school with a few people who desperately try to run in those circles.

A few of them paid good money to have themselves named to the best of 40 under 40 list.

They paid money for it.

Let that sink in for a minute when you think about these so called elite.

Most in this thread are conflating popular w/ elite. They are not the same.

Any small/medium sized city is going to have this issue. Unless you’re in a transient city (Nashville, Austin, Phoenix, Tampa, Charlotte m, etc..) you’re going to find an insular environment.
