What is the proper etiquette protocol for when to go to your seat at a play?

Or dance recital?

If you're late, wait until the song is over or play and then find your seat?

Or is it perfectly acceptable to ask people to stand up and then take your sweet arse time making your way into the middle of the aisle seat while blocking others who there to watch their child perform?

Take your time. At worst, you’ll be kicked out of the dance recital, which is a win.

Even for a dance recital, when I have to drive over an hour to watch, the last thing I want is to be kicked out of one.

Remember to take a call while stepping over everyone.

Then when your child dances, stand up to make the video.

First applause? Sounds reasonable.
Not to hijack thread, but dont you hate when someone in row at stadium one ahead/back of yours uses your row to go to nathroom because it had less people? I get you dont want to have 8 people make room if my row has less people, but then I have to get up.

Apparently these peoples thought it was appropriate to ask err'one to move in mid performance, because they wanted a seat.

They didn't think anything of it.

Add a professional play/recital the ushers will usually have a separate opening of the doors after the first number due to large number of people who were legit 5 minutes late. After that there might be one more similar chance or you have to wait till intermission.

You should try not being late. Show up on time or wait until intermission

I've shown up to see an orchestral performance late once or twice. They don't even let you into the theater to find your seat until there is a pause between movements, and you are expected to be quick about it.
