Often, but not much. Seattle isn't even ranked in the top 100 towns or cities for precipitation. It gets far less than most places in the South or East. It drizzles a lot.

The rain thing is definitely overblown. However, there is very little sunshine in the winter... But throughout the year they get about 2200 hours of sunshine. That's more than Pittsburg.

yeah, the rain isn't like we think of rain, its mostly just a mist
its the thick cloud cover that would get to me

Yeah, it's pretty cloudy here most of the year and Seattle only gets about 15 more sunny days than us. The rain really isn't the problem, it's a mist or "stiff dew" that doesn't stop you from doing much. The gray season can get old though.

Loved living there. Miss the mountains, the weather can suck, but I was raised in Eastern Washington and know you don't have to drive very far to get to dry weather.

Nice place to visit but is way too dreary for me to live there.

well that is a bit misleading
where as here, it might rain for an hour and we get 2 inches, in Seattle, it might "rain" all day and only get a trace due to their "rain" is really just a mist
but the rain thing is overblown, it's the cloud cover that gets to a lot of people

The constant overcast can become depressing, which is why we are building in the rain shadow in the San Juan Islands (actually, too little rain is a problem).

Lots dirty hippies.
i don't remember any dirty hippies in seattle and i visited several neighborhoods. i do remembers TONS of gutter punk panhandlers in portland though.
seattle is beautiful but i found the people to be passive aggressive and the traffic to be much worse than i expected. that's not much of a gripe though. but i still prefer portland to seattle. it just seemed more easy going.

Here is a csb from when I lived there for 6 months with my job:
One day I was walking in Downtown Seattle and crossed the street in the middle of the block. After crossing a Seattle policeman on a scooter pulls up on the street by me and motions me over. He tells me that I jay walked and he would have to issue me a citation. He asked for my DL and looked at it and asked, "you are from Louisiana?" I said yeah, I'm tempoararly in Seattle for work.
He puts his ticket book back in the compartment in the scooter and tells me that since I'm a visitor and wasn't aware of Seattle's strict jay walking enforcement downtown he would jst give me a warning.
And then he said that besides that he didn't want to ticket a fellow Louisianaian. He said that he was in the Navy in Bremerton and liked the area so much that when he was discharged he stayed in Seattle and joined the PD. Said in had lived there for 20 years. He said he was born and raised in Covington and still went back once a year to visit his family.

I have been twice and enjoyed both trips. The scenery is awesome like you say. The major downside to me is the large homeless/druggy population. There seemed to be hobos everywhere I went but not the hobos like you see in DC. These hobos were constantly roaming around walking. You couldn't really avoid them. Vancouver was much nicer IMO.

I've never been to Seattle but I'm pretty sure it would be my favorite city in the US.

Seattle's changed a lot in the past 20 years in that regard. It used to be more easy going, had a lot of free spirits. It's definitely a business city now and nowhere nearly as laid back as it used to be.

Love it. Do the underground tour, go to a Mariners game, trek to Cobain's house, go to Space Needle, etc.
