The top of the line Camaro/ Firebird has always nipped at the heals of the base Corvette.
I’d argue the difference here was that the ZL1 was superior to most of the vettes in the last gen from a track perspective.
According to what I heard it was a surprise to everyone at GM when the package came out where it did in terms of track performance and led to much gnashing of the teeth of senior management who didn’t want to tarnish the value proposition of the Vette, but also didn’t want to hurt what they viewed as a home run by the Camaro team.

I mean those are 10 years old lol
A Honda Civic beating a 7yr old Cayman S is impressive considering there wasn't a huge change from that model until now.

ZL1 is a great car.
Track times for the C7 Z06 and especially the ZR1 are better at mutual tracks of the Camaro. That’s not my opinion, just data.
The ZL1 is a beat, no questions and while I do not know track times for the Base C7/ Grand Sport it would not surprise me if the zL1 was faster.

mustang the only obtainable sports car
I would never consider a Mustang as a sports car.

That K24 R53 Cooper is no joke.
I bought a 2011 Mini Turbo. It had a bad engine. When I finally got it back together and lined out, I pulled out my neighborhood and stomped on the throttle as I pulled out and the tires almost broke loose as it was building boost. It's bone stock.
With a little effort, you can add 50-60hp.
I'm in mine like 4k total. Practically everything on it is new. If you are not a mechanic and can do your own work, these aren't for you.
They aren't Toyota or Honda. These are cute little precision racing cars.

Corvettes are pushing 100k
So are Suburbans and pickup trucks. It's not 1990 anymore.

You know your cars. With a name like Dragula, I would expect no less. ZL1 was Al Oppenheiser’s swan song. He poured everything into that car. It’s the only GM V8 I know of that doesn’t have Active Fuel Management. The hardware is there but it’s inactive. Even the Corvette has AFM.
I can’t beat the ZO6…too light and sleek. I can hang around with it but the Camaro is pushing 4,000 lbs. I honestly don’t know how the Vette keeps cool. ZL1 has 11 heat exchangers and a grille like a Tuna and she will get a little hot.
Too bad Chevy killed it. Zero advertising for the Camaro. The bitch CEO moved Al to the EV division.

ZL1
It absolutely is.
Heavy, but makes up for it with raw power and bulletproof dependability.
They lightened it every way they could to point of no HIDs, sound deadening, etc.
This car will appreciate quite a bit, and it's fun to own in the meantime.

You got a couple of downvotes…probably by Porsche figs. Spool dampers and 650hp/650 lb/ft of torque.
