My mom told me that she had a great aunt who had 17 kids.. Another one had 13 kids. I know people use to have a lot more kids back in the day, but how the frick did they make it work? They lived in houses smaller than the average house today..

Even 7 kids would be a lot... What would the population be in the US if we didn't have birth control?

The grandparents I referenced above were raised on farms. Of the thirty or so siblings in those families, none of them became farmers and none had more than two or three children themselves. It was a hard life and they wanted no part of it.

My grandfather on my dad’s side had like 12 or so siblings. Some died young and 3 died in WWII. But they were complete hillbillies and were poorer than shite. My grandfather was exceptionally intelligent though, graduated from Harvard, and became a professor. When my first cousins and I went to a family reunion once (which had a hundred or so I attendance), we couldn’t believe we were descended from this. The exact opposite of what my grandfather we knew was, aside from being an alcoholic of course.

My mom's great aunts were on my grandfather's side and they were devout Catholics. They thought that people were suppose to have a lot of kids. My mom has 7 siblings, but her sibling with the most kids has 4, she has one that has 0 and the others either have 1 or 2.. She has 3.. But for some reason I find it fascinating that people had such large families.

My mom is the oldest of 8. She had my brother and sister (sister is 11 years older than I, brother is 10 years older) 2 years before my grandmother had her 8th child.

If you have 9 kids in this day and age, you are by definition trashy. They’re 32, so plenty of time to become the Duggars. You can not raise 9 kids successfully.

I got in an argument like 4 years ago with some dumbass on this board calling the Duggars selfish and morally deficient, and he said let’s come back in a decade and said they’d be more successful than I or anyone calling them out ever was. Well it turns out that the eldest molested 4 of his sisters and their friend. And we haven’t even gotten to the younger ones yet that were more raised on the buddy system.

Granted I know I’m arguing largely with a bunch of Catholics who think that every sperm is sacred, but I think in this day and age it is morally wrong to have more than 5 kids. If you can’t fit your family in a Suburban, then you should stop having kids.

I have six brothers and sisters. My oldest sister has eight kids. Her oldest daughter has eight kids. My sister has 36 grand kids and I don't think they're all finished yet.

Grandma had 8 kids... catholics as well. Grandma and grandpa grew up in 1920-30s montana. Both were from over 10 kid families, each losing a couple siblings growing up. shite sounded rough.
