the dishwasher isn't like a car wash! There aren't little magic scrubbers rushing around cleaning everything, and some things will stay if you don't scrub first. I view the dishwasher as the final de-sanitizing touch to a clean dish. It used to be so annoying when I would find roommates' peanut butter knives in the dishwasher.

Exactly. You should always scrub if there's dried food. I never said you shouldn't
But full out a squirt of soap and going at it with a sponge on every single dish? Just put it on the drying mat! You've washed it!
