I realize that it has been shut down due to COVID, but I have rarely seen any of the rides operate as I have passed by during the three years I've been in Baton Rouge. A lot of money was spent on the parking area and pedestrian bridge across Highland. Was it ever popular? What is the deal with it?

Yeah it was closed last summer, but other than that every summer it is pretty packed. Saw a sign saying they were hiring 700

well when I was young, I saw a lot of female wardrobe malfunctions.

Before readily available internet, you had to put in work.

I can't imagine how rusted out everything is after sitting unused and off for more than a year and a half. You know they did zero maintenance on those rides while they were closed.

The water side isn't visible from where I exit at Highland, but I don't think I have ever seen the roller coaster operate and the rarely any of the other visible rides.

The supports on many of those rides have been rusted out for God knows how long. I remember going there almost 15 years ago and thinking to myself that there's no way I'd get on some of those death traps

At least the water running through the slides keeps them operational. They were sitting all summer baking in the heat with no water running.

There’s a sort of joke among my mom friends and I - if you want pink eye go to Blue Bayou.

Two of my friends got a parasite at liberty lagoon.

I took my kid there during the week a few years ago. Was told that’s the thing to do if you don’t want to wait in lines too much. It was fun. Went back on a weekend and it was miserable due to the locals. We never went back.

All of the was running two summers ago. Maybe get a pass to go inside instead of relying on viewing it from I-10.

I really do like the place. Everytime we go to other water parks, I get disappointed because Blue Bayou seems to have better slides.

Crews have been working on Blue Bayou daily to get the Water Park up and running. I believe some posters mentioned the Dixie Landing(amusement park side) may be being sold off.

Yeah. The parking lot on the other side of Highland Road hasn't been in use even in the couple of years before Covid. Dixie Landin' is toast.

But yes, back around 15 years ago, Blue Bayou/Dixie Landin' was in its prime. They would have a pretty dang good summer concert lineup each year, and the parking lot would be packed on Saturdays. That was right before smart phones were born, which probably played a part in its demise.

I remember going as a kid before Pirates Cove was even built

Back then they had like 5 legit slides

I can't remember all their names but they were the slide you go down on a yellow board, high water (4 slides in 1), moccasin, the double tube slide with the bigger and smaller opening, and the plunge slide by I-10. With the wave pool and lazy river of course.

Around 2000 was when Blue Bayou started adding a bunch of new slides.

I'll never mind repeating myself here to the haters/ignorants of the OT.

We had season passes for 4 Summers(2013-2017). We lived close by and would go about 15 times per Summer. The key was to go early and get in line to be first in the park. The first two hours of any day, especially week days, is wide-arse open and a blast. I love Blue Bayou even if Haynes fired my punk arse in 1991 for cussing two kids in the Lazy River.

The only problem I've ever noticed could be solved rather easily if Haynes actually gave a shite about customer experience rather than just headcount.
Large church/youth groups come from all over, from Jackson Ms to Mobile, Al. They often come on the same day as each other without any coordination/communication with the park.
So when 600 extra kids show up on a Sunday morning, It causes a clusterfrick by 1pm. Every ride takes an hour and the pools are all filled to max.

He could work with these church/youth groups to make it better for everyone. Offer discounts to come on a weekday, use reservation system/scheduling for groups over 50, etc.

The one to the right of the lily pad pool? That one sucked.

moccasin

That thing would sway like a motherfricker when you got to the top.

the plunge slide by I-10.

I went on this once when I barely weighed like 80 pounds, and I swear I wasn't even touching the slide on the way down.
