No idea but reading this thread made me wonder how many kids in a class score at least a 30 on their ACT. For instance, West Jeff c/o 94 had at least 5 and one of those was a 35.

my gifted class of about 30 kids had at least 10
the regular kids had to have at least 5 more, maybe another 10+

They give you a pretty sweet bumper sticker pretty sure

Yeah, 3 or 4 were from the gifted class as well for us.

I did it. Other than confirming that I was smart as frick, all it did was turn me into a Duke basketball fan.

It puts student on the radar of college recruiters and is a very good thing. Sort of like Nike camps for white people

My nephew was selected for the Duke TIP program and the Johns Hopkins program when he was in 4th grade.
Near as I can tell it's just a way for my sister to brag to other parents about how smart her kid is
He is smart though.

My fourth grader had a chance to join but I figured it was worthless. What's the real benefit?

I have no idea if there is any actual benefit to any of those programs. They didn't sign my nephew up, but my sister did like to tell people he was selected. Apparently the Johns Hopkins one is considered a more prestigious selection for some reason. I have no idea why. Maybe b/c it doesn't accept as many kids

Gets your kid on a watch list. Says he/she has above average talent that warrants investment. Funny how so many ppl here will dismiss this, but will spend $2000 for summer select baseball knowing their odds of making D1 are slim.

And he ended up as a lawyer. What a waste of talent.
I'd say. 300,000 posts on a message board.

I remember them having a badass CSI type program that was way too expensive for me to even consider.

It gets your kid interested in higher level learning and exposes them to subject matter they would not otherwise have access to.
It may in turn help them excell in HS and get a scholarship for college.

by participating i found out that in 7th grade, my ACT score was higher than the min ACT for TOPS and higher than all but 2 graduating seniors of a particular high school (the year i graduated from Barbe, mind you)
