For me Nola is just easy to get around. I can drink wherever, walk wherever. I like the random wierdness you can get into. Obviously I'm mainly here for work. I could commute but I'm single. If I had a family, I wouldn't live there. No fricking chance.

Better chance of getting murdered than anywhere else?

The appeal is that even though there is shite services, shite government, shite crime, shite streets and shite draining in New Orleans, there is pretty architecture, great entertainment with weekly festivals, great music, great food, nice people and overall unique qualities that make for a unique life. The things that suck are no joke and the great things about New Orleans don't lessen them, but like anything else, when you're presented with something time and again, you get used to it.
If I'm being honest, a lot of places are kind of boring. New Orleans, even with the shithole qualities, is a fun and lively place to live (or die when it gets too lively).

Close to family, close to things I like, and my wife and I have good, stable careers in NOLA that allow us to live the lifestyle we want to live.
Waking up in cookie-cutter house in a master planned community in Plano, TX or Alpharetta, GA to commute to a job I hate is the stuff of my nightmares.

What a stupid question
What’s the appeal of living in 99% of places?

And some people love that lifestyle. I'm not necessarily talking about myself. Different strokes and all.

I moved away from BR 2 years ago. I was miserable living there but have a blast when I visit. I lived on staring lane near the inn and legit woke up to rap battles

Where did you go and stay when you were in Nola? I’m assuming you spent time in the French quarter and probably on Bourbon. The people that live in Nola go to the French quarter once or twice a year and step on Bourbon once every couple of years. Most people that live around Nola work downtown so it is convenient to live in the city(especially if you don’t have kids).

NOLA is a complete shite hole. The only nice nearby area is the north shore, 45+ minutes away. BR has its bad spots but there are also nice areas inside the city. There are also multiple nice, nearby suburbs.

I have a lived in both New Orleans and Baton Rouge my entire life. I have come to The conclusion that Louisiana is awesome and everything that doesn’t matter. Hunting fishing travel bars entertainment they are second to none. But the things that matter they suck at. Roads, government, education are complete and total shite show. It’s a good place to live, it’s just not a good place to raise a family...But that is where I’m at now and I’m just trying to make the best of it.

Oh this is fresh. There are nice spots in BR but all of New Orleans is a shithole? And the north shore is nice?
What part of Texas are you from?

There are some very nice areas of Nola. They are expensive but I've lived in both cities.
Br and Nola both lack a decent white collar job market though. I'm not saying they don't exist but subpar for sure.

I've lived in both.
New Orleans is fun when you are single. None of the problems (schools, streets, crime) affect you that much...the crime can be mostly avoided if you aren't dumb.
BR has LSU and I'm sure it's fun when young and single (although I only lived there when I was in school).
The obvious answer is the same reason most of us live in some $hithole we don't particularly like: work, family, or some other circumstance that keeps us here.

Sounds like my opinion of LA. I'm close to family, friends and have made a good living in Louisiana but there are better options. I'm 41 and have a kid getting close to HS. I would be selfishly uprooting everyone at this point. That ship has sailed for 6 years unless we have to leave for employment reasons.

Both are excellent places to either get shot, stabbed, or die painfully of cancer.
That’s about it. If you’re a YOLO type, NO is a blast. BR is great on gamedays and other niche shite, but that’s about it.
Move to Texas or Florida. Both are like Louisiana since it’s hot and people drink a lot, and they still have plenty of crawfish boils. But life is generally better in both.

Have read about Latoya and Broome but never heard them speak until tonight.
Facked, facked and facked some more with these two mental midgets at the helm.
