Or a suite downtown at a hotel overlooking the parade route or sometimes Bourbon st. I go to some of those from time to time, but it's not as fun to me.

I can see why some who do it wrong would hate going to parades. I know people who drive several hours to Nola, park a mile away, then stand on Canal behind a wall of people 10 deep. No where worth a damn to pee and generally you are around trashy folks.

It's literally a religious holiday.
You party on Fat Tuesday, it's Carnival, which means farewell to the flesh. The next day is Ash Wednesday where you repent. Then it starts the holy fasting time.

I usually use mardi gras as vacation time. But have to go to Metairie on mardi gras day this year.
