I know, I stared at soberity for 15 secs or so, wracking my brain.

After drinking heavy for 37 years 3 weeks ago my liver enzymes were up. 2 weeks ago an ultrasound showed fatty liver. One week ago a Fibroscan showed severe fatty liver disease and moderate fibrosis. Scared the shite out of me because I always thought “it won’t happen to me.” I’m a RN and knew better. I quit 5 days ago and will stay quit. I just need to convince myself I can have fun and enjoy life without it.

You can. But it won’t be quite the same. You may have to change who you hang out with and what you do for fun. And that doesn’t have to be permanent. But if your friends give you shite about not drinking, then definitely think twice. For me it was about changing habits and routines. I don’t hang out with my same group nearly as much as I used to. Not because it would make me drink, it’s just that the same people aren’t as interesting to me when I’m not drinking with them. It’s just no fun to be around a bunch of sloshed people who can barely talk when you’re sober. Once you make up your mind, you can do it. And you won’t even think about it anymore.

Find some local support or a friend that’s been through it. You have no choice. Otherwise you’re in for a VERY VERY painful and gruesome death.

I quit everything almost two years ago and I’m never going back. Life is so much better this way.

Something tells me you’re a different kind of POS. But a POS nonetheless

If I am a POS for realizing that we have known that both drugs and alcohol are extremely addictive for a couple thousand years now, and that to get addicted is a life choice, that I did not choose to make, then so be it.

If you made the choice to ignore a couple thousand years' of evidence, along with the millions of lives destroyed along the way and still became an addict...well, you deserve the moniker I gave you.

Sorry, not sorry.

Best advice I ever got was “You’re only going to quit for yourself. Not your wife, kids, family, only yourself.”

I grew tired of drinking daily, and a few months after I was given that advice, I finally was ready to give it up and stay away from it. Year and a half strong now.

Good luck!

I didn’t know I was supposed to be looking for it.
