Being trashy and stupid.
He put himself in a situation he didnt have to be in and it pretty much ruined his life. The shooting was self defense, yes. It's a great example of why you take the escape route on bad situations whenever possible.

I find it hard not to conclude that Zimmerman is probably racist.
