I highly doubt all you guys make 150,000! Are you all doctors?
Nope. Not a doc and definitely don't want any kids - regardless
of my income. I'll take a dog over having kids any day. I'm sure I'm in the minority - different strokes for different folks.
My heart goes out to kids - especially the under privileged.
Just don't ever want to own any.

The key is to just not have kids. Do not need that stress.

I'm not sure how the "you need 150k a year" crowd manage money, but you're doing it wrong.
Maybe not everyone wants to have to "budget" their entire lives--I sure don't.
I also enjoy some of the nicer things in life--that doesn't mean "I'm doing it wrong".
It takes more money to live certain lifestyles. Just because that lifestyle may not be for you, don't knock it for others.

I don't see how you could comfortably raise any kids on $50k. My fiancé and I make $140k-$150k combined and it blows my mind how people with kids are able to afford the things they have. We each put 15% in our 401k and max out a Roth IRA every year. Between taxes, insurance, mortgage payments (and we even put down 20%), bills, going out to eat and going out on weekends, and a couple vacations every year our savings account doesn't grow that much. We are always building on the account but it's not taking off. People with kids must either never go on vacation, never go out to eat, or don't save any money.

It's also not the best idea in the world to wait until you are 40 to start having children.
If you start at 30 after both of you have been making money you can have 3 kids before you are 40. It is not hard to imagine a couple making that by 40. The oldest would be 10 then.
The last one would be in college around the time you are ready to retire. Would be perfect actually.
I personally dont want any kids, or havent met a girl I want to be tied to for the next 18 years. I do feel for the kids myself. It's a damn shame these people get pregnant then blame everything on the kids and they grow up poor and go to shitty schools. Those kids will just repeat the cycle and feed of the tit of the government. Getting pregnant is a choice, and I choose not to nut up in girls. Plus I want to keep my money rt now. I still have several year window to have them if I choose.

It's not easy, and we didn't save much money. We did eat out a few times a month, and took vacations(mostly road trips). We're doing it on just over $100,000 now, and it's downright comfortable. We also don't care about having new cars or the latest iphone.

Unless you plan on treating your child like an American Girl Doll with their clothing, or making sure they have every toy that hits the market, you should be ok assuming the above variables.
of course, a large majority of the blowhards in this thread have a son who swings a bat costing $329 while only hitting .189.
Moral of the story: if your son swings a bat costing more than his batting average, you're doing it wrong.

40k a year as a new nurse?
That is what she has been told to expect. How off is that estimate?
