re: What is a "good" ACT score?

I took it when I was 33 when I went to college and got a 23....I thought that was pretty decent for not having been in school since hs.

Being smart =/= being a good student
I think that being a good student can get you a good score even if you aren't the smartest. The ACT really tests the things you learned in school. It's not an IQ test. I had people who I helped out in math class score better in math than I did. I didn't prepare at all and they did. I ended up with a shitty score compared to what I expected out of myself, but I always did pretty well when I applied myself and made pretty good grades in ME once I quit effing around.

No way could I get as high a score as I did now. My memory has deteriorated significantly over the past 12 years and because of that, I have developed test anxiety. It is to the point where I take supplements.....but they don't really do much because I forget to take them.
Fricking sucks busting my arse for days before a test, only to forget everything once I get in there. Happened to me yesterday actually. No amount of studying or prep can fix me now. For some ridiculous reason though, I have kept above a 3.0 since going back.

I agree man...I couldn't take it now and expect that. Though when I took it, I was 33 and in a class with a bunch of 17 yr olds who were wondering what the old dude was doing there...so that provided a bit of extra anxiety. lol

LSU Honors College
I'm going to call BS on that...The LSU Honors College requires that you score in the 30 range to get in. They do a little bit of a sliding scale, but with a 19 he would have had trouble getting admitted to the University in the early 2000s.
I'm not saying YOU don't believe the guy, but he was lying to you. (Unless he took the SAT and killed it, in which case your point is still invalid)

I know a guy who graduated from White Castle High School in the early 2000's who went on to graduate from LSU with a 4.0 from their Honors College.

impossible
i think you're confusing graduating with honors and graduating from the honors college

I took the ACT twice but never ended up taking the SAT
1st time - 26.
2nd time - 21. I traveled to a nearby town one weekend to take the test. Twenty minutes into the drive I realized I left my calculator in our mud room at my house. I was in a rush and forgot to pick up my gatorade & calculator after putting on my shoes. [this is when I began to freak the hell out] I called my mom/dad and both had already left the house and I was too far into the drive to turn around. When I got to the testing center, I asked everyone around but no one had an extra. The whole day was a clusterfrick but some how I escaped with a 21
Now that I look back, I wish I would have taken it a few more times and popped an addy

You have your piece of paper from the ACT still?

You don't?

The ACT means absolutely nothing after you get accepted to college. Once you are 30 and in a career, nobody cares if you scored a 30 or a 25.

well that offer was 10 years ago, too, before i had even graduated undergrad

I know
But a 27 would have gotten out of state tuition waived at LSU

I'm sure my mom does

quote:Yes it does. The only good news about that is many good students leave Texas and go to LSU.
texas has weird rules regarding getting accepted into schools like UT and A&M. if you are in the top 10% of your class, you are automatically accepted, regardless of your school's academic rep. this keeps a lot of well deserving students out of those two schools
