Thank obama, pelosi, (we have to pass the bill to see what's in it), and traitor mccain (nah nah, thumbs down) for the mess you are dealing with. Dishonorable mention to all the other POS congressturds who helped it along.

And thanks to Trump who promised to fix it.

On top of that, what's being done for the visit isn't known until after the visit. Yeah, you get the office visit charge(e&m) but if youre kid had vaccinations, maybe had a strep test, or labs etc. These are all separate codes(cpts)/charges that will get submitted to insurance that has to be figured out on the backend depending on your deductible(if you have or haven't met it), your coinsurance, and what the contracted rate the doctor, hospital, etc. Afterwhich you get a bill.

Why for yrs on end did I just pay a simple copay when I went and all was done? Honestly, I only really go to an ent with any regularity, the $30 I pay when I go in the door is the extent, no matter the diagnosis or what they do. The issues arise mostly when I take the kids to checkups/sniffles visits, etc.

It’s the government’s fault. Get the government out and the insurance companies out and make it transparent and allow Drs to bill like other professionals (lawyers, CPAs, etc) based on time and published rates.

This will remove the bloat and the entirely flawed system and the distrust that goes with it.

If you met many of the people who have billing and coding jobs you'd understand.

Kid #2 had tubes, we had three different invoices for the same amount for the same hospital.

shite we got another one today for the same amount and it's been 10+months. I want to punch the doctor in the mouth just so he fixes it.

ETA: it was paid the first time.

but why can’t they get it right from go?

Because they are trying to get money any way they can. Health care billing is straight up sketchy. They overbill any chance they get.

Just looked at the one I got today. It shows I paid $30 at time of visit, shows visit was $355, and now they want $20 more from me.

lol I always thought the rules of engagement were office visits were a standard copay?

Use to be. That has all changed. No idea how it works now but I know I pay more.

What a fricking racket! Have services rendered, then receive a mystery bill based on some nebulous reason.

I just throw them in the garbage. 95% of the time they’ll figure it out and correct it and I don’t owe anything.

I’m not wasting my time reconciling that shite so my insurance pays the doctors office. If the doctors office wants their money they need to figure out whatever they did wrong and bill the insurance correctly if they want their money, b/c I’m not paying it.
I’ll just go to another doctor if if they can’t figure it out.

You can honestly thank both the Democrats and the Republicans who have made this a partisan issue instead or working together to craft a real, meaningful solution. Of course, the real reason they haven’t is that would benefit the people they are supposes to serve, instead of the corporate overloads
they really work for.

I don’t pay medical bills I get in the mail. I either pay in person prior to the service or not at all. I’ll get all sorts of random bills. Like one time they sent us to the blood lab to check the iron in my youngest son, got a bill for like $600 from the lab. lol, yeah no. Also my dental, waits months to pay bills, so I pretty much trash anything from the dentist. They will get it eventually

Fortunately my issues have been of the $20/$30 variety. I did get hit with a $1000 ER bill bc the insurance company deemed it wasn’t an emergency, even though we were directed to go to the ER by the triage nurse at an urgent care. Ended up fighting that for close to a year and a half and finally settled with the hospital paying them $200. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

Truth. If you have any operation done, no matter how major or minor, every damned body who is within a city block of the procedure comes in to the room with their hand out looking to get paid.

Had a medical procedure done a while back. Received statement from health insurance indicating they fully paid for it. A week later I received a huge bill from medical provider for same procedure. According to the bill, insurance didn't cover procedure. I called my insurance co. and was told the medical provider was incorrect, that the procedure was covered and they paid for procedure so I shouldn't be getting billed. Called medical provider and was told they'd look into it and get back with me, but they never did. Month later I received same bill. Called insurance again and was again told they paid for procedure, had a receipt of payment proving provider received full payment ( I was emailed a copy of this), and that I shouldn't be getting billed. I asked if they could contact medical provider and they said no. I called medical provider and they said the amount I was billed was what I owed, and insurance only partially covered the procedure. Called insurance again. They once again said that they fully covered the procedure but that the medical provider could charge me whatever they wanted to. I'm like wtf! Why have insurance if that's the case. Makes no sense at all. Whole thing is a scam.
