What has made society become so selfishly-violent ala Columbine?

Reality tv?
24 hour cable news?
Opposition to a political party?
Easy access to ADHD meds and even easier to skip day(s) on depression meds?
Parental involvement or lack thereof?
Help me figure it out. Just got word a 2nd cousin died of drug OD. Hadn't seen him since 1990...i wanna know what happened.

I honestly think we just notice violence more now.
Some of you may remember the extremely bloody Howard Johnston terror shooting in New Orleans (1973) and the Univetsity of Texas shooting (1966).
Drug abuse has been a problem for a long time.
Gang violence has been a problem a long time.
We aren't in uncharted water here. We just have 24 hour news cycles.

I remember a kid got caught with a gun in middle school. It wasn’t on the news, no grief counselor, no letters to parents. They just kicked the kid out.
