i work in technology and there's been a few times where i need a very random cable or accessory in a pinch during installs and am not near an altex or Fry's (RIP) so they've worked in a pinch.
They used to have better deals on upgrading phones in the 2000s than you could get through the carriers.
People there have never been overly helpful though.

November '23 I went to buy a over the stove microwave since mine died. The manufacture dates on all the display models was 2019/2020. Bought from Lowes and it was a fall 2022 date. Has Best Buy just turned into a fancy Big Lots or something selling leftover bulk warehouse items?

Everything Best Buy sells is essentially a commodity available from multiple sources. The internet kills these types of businesses as you can search every option available, get product reviews, decide what you want and have access to every vendor out there to get the best deal AND have it shipped to your front door.
There’s really no reason to go there at all.

Amazon is pretty decent about getting stuff the next day if you order it early enough
Extrememly rare for us. Almost all the time it's 2 day.
And even if it was next day... I need it for 8 am tomorrow morning. I found out I needed to get it early this morning.

People really need to understand that no store inventory is accurate on the website. If it’s something they carry it will show in stock online even if it actually isn’t…
There is no reason for that with the technology we have in 2024. Inventory comes in to the store, gets counted, that goes in the computer. POS rings up an item, subtracts from inventory. Internet allows real-time lookup.

this gets you into the store where most people will just buy something comparable if what they want isn’t there.
Oh, so just crappy not caring about your customers. That makes sense.

All this and more in today’s episode of “Minor Inconveniences in the First World.”
Yup. With the grace of God, I work hard, provide for my family, and don't have to worry about where my next meal will come from or if I will have electricity.

I have a friend who works for them. Staff reductions to reduce overhead is why you checked out at customer service. Shitty service comes down to a shitty hiring pool. The utes of today trend toward the shitty
And yet Cane's and Chic-Fil-A have no problem finding employees, to do work that is harder than checking out people at a technology store.
It ain't the utes.
It's the idiots in the C-Suite.
A company like Best Buy, who will likely always be beaten on price by Amazon and the like, can only survive if they quick, outstanding service. People will pay a little more for solid, quick service.
Otherwise, why bother?

The problem is, they won’t pay more if the same thing exists cheaper somewhere else. At best, they’ll use you as a showroom to leverage your amazing customer service and never pay for it. This is literally what happened to them over the past decade.
Even if people were willing to pay a premium and buy from Best Buy, it would have to be a huge premium for them to be profitable. Even in their heyday, the margins are shite. Their profit is in accessories (a $2.50 HDMI cable that they would sell for $49), or the true golden goose: protection plans and financing. I worked there for a while during college. One time I sold a guy 7 TV’s for his new beach house, and got chewed out because I didn’t get him to buy a protection plan, or put them on a Best Buy credit card. It actually made the home theater department’s metrics go down for the day.

Customer service has been in the toilet for 2 or 3 years in Baton Rouge.

I remember when I was a kid and couldn’t wait to taste a whopper and hot salty fries with catsup. Shitty customer service fricked BK.

Best Buy has never been worth a damn besides the fact they had a large selection of electronics and accessories. Sounds like from the OP they can't even do that now. frick Best Buy.
