25 year smoker. I used Chantix for 2 weeks. I had some of my worst night terrors and some of my most erotic dreams on that stuff.
I’ve been smoke free for almost 18 years and it was the hardest thing ever.
Four problems:
Nicotine addiction (cravings actually only last about 3 minutes). Time them. Make it a game.
Habits: changing them before quitting helps immensely. You will be amazed how difficult this is.
Psychological addiction. Figure out something to do with your hands (fidget) and how to deal with stress.
Additional time. You’re going to have many more hours in the day. You will not know how to fill that time. Makes plans. Pick up a hobby now.
Trick: take 6 months to change your habits first.
Smoke while you drive? Make yourself pull over and get out.
Smoke while you drink? Don’t. Make yourself choose one or the other.
Smoke on the front porch? Move to the back porch.
Smoke while on the phone? Stop.
Smoke immediately after a meal? Make yourself wait at least 30 minutes.
Smoke first thing upon waking? Make yourself wait an hour.
You will be amazed at how difficult this is and how much easier quitting smoking will be.
Good luck to you.

Patches prolong it and reduce your quit success rate because it continues to feed the dopamine receptors in the brain.

The Marines handed that out like candy for anyone who said they were smoking. Side affects of scary, vivid dreams and possible depression don't mix well with potential PTSD. Not saying it's related, but both guys I knew in the Marines who committed suicide took Chantix as well.

Switch to dip like a real man and you won’t have to quit

Chanting or the generic didn’t do shite for me.
The nicotine patches worked.
Then I started doing zyn.

What has your experience been with Chantix?
I'm using the Canadian version because Chantix causes cancer......yeah really.
The Canadian version is Varenicline, 1MG, and I went from 1 pack to about 1/4 pack.
