I’ll notice a dead dog or Raccoon in the road. The next day it’s usually gone. I live in the suburbs of Baton Rouge. So who is picking them up?

My father used to check runover rabbits to see if they were warm. If they were warm, they were stewed the next day.

The state highway department has people whose sole job is to pick up roadkill.

It winds up in somebody’s pot for dinner. When I was working in Louisiana it always amazed me how roadkill stops as soon as I crossed the state line.

Buzzards are the only bird of prey that doesn't kill their food.

When I was at Ft. Polk, there was a thing called the “Red Cycle” detail. Pretty much at some point for 30 days you’ll be on it. I was on rigger detail at the NTC for 30 days. Some were luckier. Two people in my platoon literally drove around Ft. Polk in a stake bed truck scooping up dead animals and downed limbs.
