If you can't afford $150 for a humane and painless death. Perhaps you can't afford pets.

One of our pup spends so much time in the kitchen looking for food I’ll probably bury him there.

I worked for a vet for a while, and if the bodies weren't claimed, they were picked up by a body disposal place. My understanding was it basically went to a dump for dead animals and other similar haz waste.

As for our family, we cremated then buried them in the garden under a bird wash pedestal thing.

I kept threatening to take our girl to the taxidermist, but she lived a long life and age took its toll. Plus, it was hard to decide what pose to put her in.

Hind paws in the back seat, right front paw on the console, left front paw on my shoulder was the option I favored.

Kinda weird

Yea we had our two pups who've passed cremated and put into nice little wooden boxes. They have a paw print mold next to the boxes on the mantle.

Cat People are strange.

What are you doing here? You're way too experienced an OTer to be acting like this. Flaming every damned poster in this thread? Stop it right this instant.

We have the paw print too.

So, how are cat people strange?

"Those people put the pet's cramains in a different box then we did, Ethel. They sure are strange."

You have enough experience to know that 99% of these clowns deserve a good flaming.

Remember when Chicken had the get together and gave away all the swag? Some posted pictures of a line of OTer's?

This rich, extremely fit, gorgeous crowd were in a reality a bunch of fat, baseball cap wearing, average rednecks.

1. Take home the body This has been our option. Two buried at my wife's parents and one buried at our house.

This is what we have done. Burying our dog turned out to be quite expensive because when my husband lowered the dog into the hole he dug, his apple watch slipped off his wrist, and we didn’t realize it until after the dog was already buried. There was no way we were exhuming the dog to recover the watch. We just bought a new watch.

The deceased animals are sent home with their families and/or put in a pet cemetery.
Creamation for in wanted ones.

I didn’t realize this was a thing. Are there actually people who drop a pet off at the vet’s office and do not stay with the pet during the euthanasia process? That’s pretty awful. I can’t imagine doing that to a beloved pet. The least a person can do is comfort one’s pet during his final moments on earth. Sure, it is hard to watch a pet die, but it would be harder to imagine him dying alone.
