Hypothermia.

Some like to say aliens or due to some nuclear material residue a covert op gone wrong.

I think it was something much simpler. A fight started over jealousy of who was diddling who, the tent got slashed in it or as retribution for it. Storm sets in, hypothermia takes all the poor bastards.
