Be original. Bridges always have traffic jams.

And to answer your question, it’s just your senior design project. Depending on what semester you graduate(Fall vs Spring), there’s 2 projects to choose from. If you’re civil, it’s road and structure in fall. The bridge and something else in spring. It’s in the flow chart. Keep an eye on what electives you have to have to do each. That shite’ll sneak up on ya

Just tell him you’ll have it ready when the new loop gets installer around BR. You won’t have to turn it in until 2035

The fact that OP is...

1. Asking what a Capstone Project is and...

2. Contemplating the idea of ignoring the specs...

Makes me think he learned nothing in school.

Does he still look at the back wall/ceiling when he's talking to the class? That was always funny watching people that had him for the first time turn and try to look at what he was looking at.

He was one of my favorite teachers though.

He said we need to design a working draw bridge with proper scaled dynamics for the Mississippi River here in Baton Rouge, but that doesn’t seem necessary or even possible
Explain to him how you feel about it.

Your feelings MATTER!

Alternatively, don’t go over the water, design a tunnel under the River.

Make sure that you accommodate a system in your design to defend the tunnel against anchor snags and suction spud penetrations.
