Anyone here old enough to remember a made for TV movie called Savage Bees.
The bees started attacking people in New Orleans and spoiler alert they get a hive on Volkswagen Beatle and take to the Superdome and use the air conditioners in the dome to get below 45 degrees which killed the killer bees.
I always wanted to watch the full movie since it was made and aired before I was born, but never could find it. I have found pieces on YouTube.
I just searched again and it was there.

Bro, Bagwell and Biggio retired years ago. Why are you worried about them?

Also, what happened to cars jumping opening drawbridges? That was in nearly every action movie.

That was a big topic in the 70's.Africanized-Killer Bees coming up from Mexico.
Now the talk is that there is not enough Bees.

The woods are a big place. Stumbling upon a hive is not always easy. Also, like most things, if you don’t frick with it or get too close, they tend to leave you alone.

We recently had to hire a bee remover at a museum that bees had made a hive in the walls of a 2 story building. I got stung a few times and noticed it was a bit worst than other times I got stung. But didn't think much about it. A few months later the bees were all over and aggressive. We made a few calls and got a grad student that said he would relocate the bees at a reasonable cost.
He came out with all the gear and smoke. Started removing exterior weather boards and had to stop and regroup. The bees followed him to his truck which was parked about 100' away. He said that was unusual and that they would normally break pursuit and head back to the hive after about 75 feet. He put another layer of clothing on under his suit. Dude was bleeding on his arms from stings through his suit. He made a few calls and tried again but shite hit the fan. He said he was advise to kill them and take samples to LSU.
By this time we weren't surprise the test results said they were Africanized bees.
They didn't get me while he was working but anyone that ran got their asses stung 8-10 times. After a few weeks several houses in the area had Africanize bee hives in them. We thought we were going get some free honey but because they poison them we had to trough it all away.

I vividly remember seeing reports about swarms coming from Mexico (back in the 90s) and assuming by now that bees would all be our overloards

They are still here and great efforts go into containing them and reducing their footprint
People still get attacked.
Beekeepers are required to change their queens out regularly with a docile breed of bee on a regular basis now to keep Africanized bees from taking over .
It is keeping the aggressive species in check for now

It's one of those "quicksand" things. . . You worry way more about it as a kid when it's not even a consideration in your life. . . ever.
Hollywood, too. In the 80s we had movies about killer bees, birds, dogs, you name it.

The most common way that a European hive will become Africanized is through cross-breeding during a new queen's mating flight.
Mulatto bees?
